The question

How can one reconcile the desire of a girl to marry a young man of good character and religious commitment, who is facing financial difficulties and debts, with her family's desire to marry their daughter within the tribe and with a high dowry, and the girl's rejection of the debts and demand for a solution to the young man's financial problem?

The answer

We advise you to seek Allah's help in completing your marriage, as marriage is a cause of richness. There is no harm in borrowing from your brothers with the intention of repaying, for whoever borrows with the firm intention to repay will be aided by Allah, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) sayings: "Whoever takes the money of people with the intention of repaying it, Allah will repay it for him," and "There is no servant who has the intention to repay his debt but that he will have help from Allah," and "Indeed, Allah is with the debtor until he repays his debt."

Allah has guaranteed assistance to those who marry, as He says: "If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty." We also advise your father to lighten the dowry to make things easier, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, among the blessings of a woman is the ease of her proposal, the ease of her dowry, and the ease of her womb." Spending on your parents and siblings contains great good and reward.
