How can we trust the authenticity of the many hadiths and virtues of the Companions, especially if the Companion narrated them about himself? And is the justice of the Companions sufficient to guarantee that they would not lie? And could the narrations of the Companions about each other be out of courtesy or for worldly reasons? And could the Companions have conspired to insert verses about their virtues into the Qur’an?

The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, were uniquely honored by Allah with the companionship of His Prophet. They are the ones who transmitted the religion, the Book, and the Sunnah. Doubting their uprightness opens the door to doubting the entire religion, because they are the foundation upon which the Sacred Law was transmitted. If they are not trusted, how can the religion and its details be known? This impugnment of the Companions demolishes the very foundations of the religion. Therefore, among the fundamental tenets of the belief of the Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah is to love the Companions and be loyal to them, and to testify to their faith and truthfulness. Furthermore, any ill treatment towards them is a deviation from the Straight Path. Evidence from the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the sayings of scholars such as Imam Ahmad, Abu Zur'ah al-Razi, and Ibn Taymiyyah affirms their فضائل (virtues) and the grave danger of impugning them, as this enrages the disbelievers and aims to invalidate the religion. So, let a Muslim seek refuge from these whisperings and increase in the remembrance of Allah and the reading of books on the virtues of the Companions.
