Are disturbing dreams that involve seeing Satan embodied in the form of relatives and attempting to choke the dreamer, which have developed to include conversations with Satan and seeing him embodied in family members, considered a type of jinn in the house, or are they merely a jathoom (sleep paralysis)?
There is no objection to a jinn taking the form of another person, whether relatives or others, as they take on different forms by Allah's power and are sometimes seen by people. This occurred with Abu Hurairah and Ubayy ibn Ka'b. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah also mentioned that jinn can appear in the forms of humans and animals, just as Satan appeared in the form of Suraqah ibn Malik to Quraysh before Badr, and in the form of a Najdi elder in Dar al-Nadwah.
The remedy for this is reciting the Quran, especially Surah al-Baqarah, from which Satan flees from the house where it is recited, and maintaining the remembrances before sleep, especially Ayatul Kursi. In addition, remove everything that attracts devils and prevents angels from the house, such as forbidden pictures, dogs, and musical instruments that might be misused.
