Does the noble verse, "And when adversity touches man, he invokes Us; then when We bestow on him a favor from Us, he says, 'I have only been given it because of [my] knowledge.' Rather, it is a trial, but most of them do not know," include those who say their affairs are facilitated by supplication?

A man's statement: "His affairs are facilitated by supplication" does not make him one of those included in the dispraise mentioned in the verse. The truthful believer says this while feeling Allah's grace and mercy, and that supplication itself is a divine enablement from Allah. The dispraise in the verse is directed at those who attribute blessings to themselves and their transgression.

Al-Tabari said: The prosperity and ease were due to his honor and Allah's pleasure with his deeds. And Ibn Kathir said: When a person is in distress, he supplicates, and when Allah bestows a blessing upon him, he says: "I was only given it because of knowledge I have," meaning because he deserved it.
