Is it permissible to abandon those who harm me with bad words, insults, hatred, and malice, or what should I do?

It is preferable to try advising them with kindness and reminding them of the impermissibility of insulting, using verses and hadiths such as: "Insulting a Muslim is wickedness and fighting him is disbelief," and "The believer is not a slanderer, nor a curser, nor an obscene speaker, nor an ill-mannered one." If they do not desist, it is permissible to abandon them if their association causes harm to one's religion or worldly affairs, as Ibn Abd al-Barr stated: "They have agreed on the permissibility of abandoning for more than three days anyone from whose conversation one fears harm to their religion or worldly life."
