What is the meaning of the statement by Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, may Allah have mercy on him: "The Companions' fear of hypocrisy does not necessitate their falling into it; rather, that was out of their extreme piety and devoutness"?

The Companions' fear of hypocrisy stemmed from their intense self-scrutiny and piety, which is a characteristic of those who hasten to good deeds, as Allah the Almighty said: "And those who give what they give while their hearts are trembling because they know that they will return to their Lord. Those are the ones who hasten to good deeds, and they are foremost in them." Aisha explained this verse by saying that they are those who fast, pray, and give charity, yet fear that their deeds may not be accepted. The believer performs acts of obedience while being apprehensive, fearful, and trembling, whereas the wicked commits sins while feeling secure. This chapter is dedicated to refuting the Murji'ah, and the Companions unanimously agreed on their fear of hypocrisy in deeds.
