Is buying an apartment or a car in installments through a bank permissible or forbidden?

Purchasing an apartment or a car in installments is permissible if it adheres to the Shariah guidelines. These are: that the transaction does not involve usury (such as an increase for late payment), and that the bank owns the item being sold, rather than lending the price with interest. If any of these conditions are violated, it is a usurious and forbidden transaction. It is not permissible to deal with conventional banks for financing, as this constitutes cooperation in sin. It is preferable to deal with Islamic banks when there is a need.
