Is it obligatory for someone with a strong desire and eagerness to marry to abandon university studies—which will take another three years and involve mixing [of genders]—and dedicate himself to seeking Islamic knowledge, especially given his feeling that studying is a waste of time, all while desiring to please his parents and marry?

There is no contradiction between studying and marriage, for marriage is not an obstacle to studying; rather, delaying it may lead to psychological disturbances that affect academic achievement.

If you can convince your parents to allow you to marry now, then do so. Otherwise, you must fast, lower your gaze, and stay away from provocations, while filling your time with studying and acquiring knowledge.

Your feeling that studying is a waste of time is incorrect, for all knowledge contains benefit and may help you in obtaining a job. Seek Allah's help and correct your intention by making your study for the service of Islam and Muslims, and for the benefit of your society and nation. Make pleasing your father, getting a job, and marriage secondary, not primary. You can also seek Islamic knowledge by organizing your time and utilizing holidays.
