Is a student's neglect of his studies and his failure, despite his ability to strive and achieve success, considered an act of disobedience to parents (Uquq al-walidayn)?

If parents are deeply distressed by their child's academic shortcomings, it is feared that this may constitute prohibited disobedience (ʿuqūq). Even if it does not, it is undoubtedly a departure from what is preferable and best. Therefore, he must strive in his studies and, in doing so, seek to please Allah and honor his parents.
