Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) avoiding certain paths because of their names constitute a bad omen, and does this apply to us in our daily lives?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, loved good names and saw them as a good omen. He disliked ugly names, but he did not practice tatyir (superstitious belief in omens) or tashā’um (pessimism/bad omens) because of them.

It has not been reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, abandoned anything due to the ugliness of its name. What Al-Waqidi mentioned about him abandoning some paths because of their ugly names is weak and cannot be used as evidence.

Therefore, whoever sees or hears something disliked should not let it deter him from his goal, for that is a form of tashā’um and tatyir, both of which are forbidden.
