What are the conditions for sound repentance, and is a servant held accountable for sins from which he has repented? And is the saying correct: "If you attach someone to your love while you are toying, you bear all their sins until the Day of Judgment, and if you make someone cry, angels curse you until they are pleased with you"? And do the family members of the repentant suffer for what he previously committed, as in "as you judge, so shall you be judged"? And is it obligatory to ask for forgiveness from the girl who is attached to him? And is he sinful if he cannot communicate with her, or if she forgives him but cannot forget him?

Praise be to Allah, who has blessed you with repentance from abandoning prayer and from disobeying your parents. You must also sincerely repent from all forbidden relationships with women, by abandoning the sin, regretting having committed it, and resolving never to return to it. You are not required to seek absolution from these women. Repentance erases what came before it, and the one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin. Allah Almighty says: "And He is the One who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons sins, and He knows what you do" [Ash-Shura:25]. And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin." And do not fear that your family will fall into forbidden acts as a retribution for your past sins, as long as you are repentant.
