Is it permissible for women to swim in an enclosed pool with other women present, and to wear a modest swimsuit (Burkini)?

A Muslim woman is not permitted to bathe or swim in front of other Muslim women unless she covers her awrah—the area between the navel and the knee—with an opaque garment that does not reveal or delineate her body. As for non-Muslim women, it is not permissible to uncover anything more than what is typically visible during work, such as the face, hands, and forearms. Indeed, Umar ibn al-Khattab prohibited the women of the People of the Book from entering public baths with Muslim women.
