Is it permissible to rent out a license to practice the accounting profession to a person who is not scientifically qualified, in exchange for a monthly sum, knowing that he manages and finances the project?
The aforementioned transaction, which involves taking a monthly fee in exchange for giving a license to another person, is not permissible in Islamic law and is not considered a valid lease. It falls under what is known as "thaman al-jah" (the price of prestige/influence). The preponderant ruling regarding the price of prestige is one of detail: if the license holder (the one with prestige) expends effort or performs work, then he is entitled to a wage equivalent to what is customary for such work (ajrat al-mithl); otherwise, it is not permissible for him to take a wage. Therefore, it is not permissible for you to take a monthly fee in exchange for your license. However, you can work in the accounting office and take a known wage for your work, provided that the man's work with the license does not result in harm to Muslims.
