What is the ruling on seeking help from a female relative known for her ability to find lost items—by offering something for the owner of the lost item to place in her home—in order to locate a missing piece of gold jewelry, given the low probability of it having been stolen?

A woman offering something to find a lost item, when its benefit and causality are unknown, neither by Sharīʿah, nor by reason, nor by custom, and relying on such a thing is a reprehensible deviation. Scholars have explicitly stated that relying on a cause that the Sharīʿah has not made a cause is a minor form of shirk, and that causes which have no effect according to Sharīʿah, custom, or experience are of no benefit to a person, as in the ḥadīth prohibiting wearing the ring of al-wāhinah. Therefore, it is not permissible to seek assistance through this method.
