Is the wife entitled to apply what is stated in Surat An-Nisa (The Women) to her husband if she perceives recalcitrance from him: "As for those from whom you fear defiance, admonish them, and abandon them in their beds, and strike them. But if they obey you, do not seek a way against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted, Grand." (4:34)?

The steps for treating a wife's nushooz (disobedience/rebellion) mentioned in the Quran are an exclusive right of the husband and should not be generalized to include women in sharing them with men, because qawamah (guardianship/headship) belongs to the man. If a woman fears nushooz or aversion from her husband, then what is prescribed for her is to seek reconciliation, as in His (Allah's) saying: "And if a woman fears from her husband nushooz or aversion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between themselves, and settlement is best."
