Is it permissible to give the expiation for an oath (kaffarat al-yameen) to a poor sister's family consisting of seven members (the couple and five daughters)? And is it sufficient to give two mudds of bulgur wheat to each person and complete the expiation for three other persons? And is it permissible to eat from the food of this expiation if I am invited by them or if they send some of it to my family? And is maintenance obligatory upon the brother and sister?

1. It is permissible to give expiation for an oath (kaffarat al-yamin (definition)) to the poor family of a sister, excluding the sister herself. This is because her maintenance is obligatory upon the inheriting brother, and therefore it is not valid to give the expiation to someone whose maintenance is obligatory, as it is a right belonging to Allah.

2. The feeding must be from the average of what one feeds one's own family, in terms of quantity and quality. This is determined by giving one mudd per destitute person (approximately 750 grams), though it is more cautious to give two mudds (about 1.5 kilograms).

3. If the expiation is received and becomes the property of the destitute, then there is no harm for the one who paid it to eat from it if it is presented to him as a gift or hospitality, because its description has changed.
