Is it permissible to suffice with asking the head of a poor family about the number of his family members to pay the expiation for seven oaths I broke, and is it sufficient to pay the expiation with only rice, and how should the rice paid be divided among a single family, and is it permissible for the expiation to be for the same individuals in all seven oaths?

It is permissible to pay the expiation for an oath (kaffarat al-yamin) to a family that includes ten or more needy individuals, because what is obligatory is to feed ten needy persons, and this is fulfilled by paying it to a single family. Rice alone is sufficient for this, and it is better to add a side dish. If a Muslim owes two expiations, it is permissible to pay them both together to ten needy persons on a single day. The required amount for the expiation is half a saa' for each needy person (approximately one and a half kilograms of rice).
