It is permissible to pay the expiation for an oath (kaffarat al-) to a family that includes ten or more needy individuals, because what is obligatory is to feed ten needy persons, and this is fulfilled by paying it to a single family. Rice alone is sufficient for this, and it is better to add a side dish. If a Muslim owes two expiations, it is permissible to pay them both together to ten needy persons on a single day. The required amount for the expiation is half a saa' for each needy person (approximately one and a half kilograms of rice).
