Is it permissible to trade in the sale and distribution of a device that continuously recites the Qur’an over water collected in a tank, for drinking this water over which the Qur’an has been recited?
Trading in devices that continuously broadcast the Quran is not recommended for two reasons:
1. Disrespect: Playing the Quran at all times and in all places, in front of everyone, especially in places like markets, can be considered disrespectful and a lack of veneration. Ibn Aqil stated that reading the Quran in markets is disliked due to the shouting prevalent there, and Sheikh Al-Uthaymeen said that it is not polite to recite the Quran without listening attentively to it.
2. Impermissibility: Using these devices for (exorcism/healing) or seeking healing has no basis (in Islamic law); because legitimate Ruqyah is performed directly by the reciter upon the patient or upon water that the patient drinks, and not through audio recordings or loudspeakers. The principle regarding concessions is to restrict them to what is supported by evidence.
