Is it considered unlawful what a husband does by having infrequent intercourse with his wife and intentionally staying away from her for long periods, in addition to his saying: "Go on, live on that for a month"?

Scholars have differed regarding the obligatory frequency of intercourse for the husband. The preponderant opinion is that it is obligatory for him according to his wife's need and his ability, as stated by Ibn Taymiyyah. If the husband abstains from intercourse despite his wife's need and his ability, without a valid excuse, then he is an oppressor and mistreats her companionship. She has the right to seek divorce if she is harmed by this. As for the wife supplicating against him, it is permissible for the oppressed to supplicate against the oppressor within the bounds of his injustice, without exceeding them. However, it is preferable to refrain from doing so. It is not permissible to supplicate that he be afflicted with impotence, as this constitutes transgression in supplication. The advice is to reach an understanding with the husband gently and remind him of his duties, while seeking Allah's help and supplicating.
