What is meant by the "delight" concerning which the servant will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection, and does it include food, drink, and beautiful clothing, even if these are all that a person possesses?

The interpretation of the verse: "Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight!" (Surah At-Takathur, 102:8) means that Allah will question His servants about the blessings He bestowed upon them: what they did with them, how they acquired them, and how they spent them. Interpreters have differed regarding what is meant by "delight" (نعيم), but the correct view is that it is general and encompasses all kinds of blessings, including food, drink, clothing, health, senses, and so forth.

It is narrated in a hadith that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, after they had eaten and drunk: "By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, you will be questioned about this delight on the Day of Resurrection. Hunger drove you out of your homes, and you did not return until you obtained this delight."

What a person is compelled to acquire of food, clothing, or shelter to meet basic needs is not among the delights about which one will be questioned.

The questioning about delight includes both Muslims and disbelievers. However, for the believer, the questioning is a glad tiding for combining the blessings of this world and the Hereafter, because he was grateful to Allah. As for the disbeliever, the questioning is a reproach because he met these blessings with disbelief and disobedience.
