Does contentment and satisfaction contradict asking for more from God?

Contentment is satisfaction with one's portion. It has three levels: The highest is satisfaction with bare necessities and diverting one's self from seeking more. The middle is sufficiency without extravagance. The lowest is accepting what is available and not disliking an increase if it comes, or seeking what is difficult to obtain if it is slight. A hadith regarding the virtue of contentment states: "He has succeeded who embraced Islam, was provided with just enough, and Allah made him content with what He gave him." The Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, asked his Lord to make the provision for his family a mere sustenance; meaning, what suffices them and sustains their life. This indicates the virtue of having little from this world. As for seeking more lawful worldly provisions from Allah, there is no harm in it. Likewise, seeking more knowledge, obedience, and closeness to Allah is commendable.
