What is the interpretation of the Noble Verse: "And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits; and give good tidings to the patient"?

Allah Almighty says: {And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.} [Al-Baqarah: 155-157].

The verses inform us that Allah tests His servants with tribulations, such as fear, hunger, and a loss of wealth, lives, and fruits, to distinguish the truthful from the liar, and the patient from the impatient. These trials refine hearts, they do not destroy them. Patience in the face of calamities transforms them into blessings, and the patient are promised a great reward beyond measure. The patient are those who attribute matters to Allah, saying: {Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return}, and they are praised by their Lord, and He bestows mercy upon them and guides them. As for the impatient, they lose the reward of patience. Every calamity that occurs is predetermined in a book, so that a person does not grieve over what they have missed nor rejoice over what they have been given. And a servant's knowledge that what befell them could not have missed them helps them to be patient. So, joy is gratitude and grief is patience.
