What is the religious ruling on the actions of a husband who had intercourse with his wife while she was menstruating, then asked her to abort the fetus, and threatened her with divorce and defamation to pressure her into signing papers relinquishing her rights?

It is impermissible for a husband to threaten his wife into waiving her rights, unless she does so willingly. One must have a good opinion of the wife, and it is not permissible to accuse her of a disgraceful act, especially if it concerns her honor. Abortion is forbidden, even if the fetus is merely a zygote, and the sin becomes greater after the ensoulment. Blood money (diyah) becomes obligatory after the fetus has formed, to be paid by whoever administered the medication. It is forbidden to have intercourse with a menstruating woman until she becomes pure, based on the Almighty's saying: "And they ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is a harm, so keep away from women during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has commanded you.' Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves." In the event of a dispute between spouses, it is advisable to consult the Sharia court.
