The fast is broken by the emission of semen resulting from foreplay, habitual looking [at what is unlawful], or deriving pleasure from conversation. The majority of scholars mandate making up the fast (qada') but not expiation (kaffarah), unlike the Malikis who obligate both expiation and making up the fast. If the fiancée is contractually bound (i.e., the marriage contract has been performed), then it is permissible to sit with her. Otherwise, any private seclusion (khalwa) with her is a sin that requires repentance, and its gravity increases during the daytime of Ramadan.
