Is it permissible to combine the intention of Udhiyah (sacrifice) and Aqiqah (sacrifice for a newborn) in one animal on Eid al-Adha, or does Udhiyah take precedence over Aqiqah?

The Udhiyah (sacrifice) and the 'Aqiqah (sacrifice for a newborn) are a confirmed Sunnah according to the majority of scholars. Abu Hanifa obligates them for residents of cities, while two of his companions consider them a confirmed Sunnah. As for the 'Aqiqah, it is permissible according to the Hanafis. The correct view is that they are a confirmed Sunnah, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "When you see the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah and one of you wishes to offer a sacrifice, then let him refrain from [cutting] his hair and nails." His saying "wishes" indicates that it is a Sunnah, not an obligation. It is preferable to perform both together, but if one cannot, and the day of Eid arrives, then the best option is to share in the sacrifice.
