It is not permissible to deposit money in interest-based banks, and the accrued interest must be disposed of by spending it on general Muslim welfare, such as for the poor and needy, along with sincere repentance. It is permissible to pay zakat to a poor, indebted husband, provided that his debt was incurred for a permissible purpose, or if he has sincerely repented if it was for a disobedient act. It is disliked for the wife to benefit from her zakat paid to her husband if he spends it on household needs. It is permissible to give a portion of zakat to a poor sister.
