The question

What is the meaning of the phrase "for what is with Him is greater and more lasting than what you possess in your worldly life" in the statement of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) is trust in Allah, and true reliance is that you trust in Allah and in what is with Allah, for what is with Him is greater and more lasting than what you possess in your worldly life"?

The answer

This narration has not been transmitted with a chain of authority from Ibn Abbas. Its meaning is that one who relies on Allah trusts in what is in Allah's hand and knows that what is with people perishes, while what is with Allah remains. Thus, he trusts more in what is in Allah's hand than in what is in his own hands, and he does not worry about tomorrow because he knows that all matters are in Allah's hand. Many statements with this meaning have been reported from the Salaf.
