If a person obligated (to perform ritual purity) doubts whether a discharge is mani (spermatic fluid) or something else, then according to the Shafi'is, he has the option to choose: either consider it mani and perform (ritual bath), or consider it madhi (pre-seminal fluid) and wash his private parts and whatever it touched, then perform wudu' (ablution). As for the Malikis, he must perform ghusl in case of doubt. The Hanbalis have a different detailed ruling.
