The answer

It would have been appropriate to console the wife in her misfortune and apologize to her for any shortcomings. However, this should not be a reason to seek divorce, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The women who seek khul' and those who demand separation are the hypocrites," and his saying: "Any woman who asks her husband for a divorce without any strong reason, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her." Seeking a divorce is permissible only in cases of necessity, such as ill-treatment, as happened with the wife of Thabit ibn Qays. A wife's travel without her husband's permission is not permissible except for an obligatory ', and the husband cannot prevent her from it. The wife must fear Allah and not disobey her husband or seek divorce except out of necessity. The husband, in turn, must treat her kindly, advise her, and console her.
