Why do some Muslim women in France refuse to marry Muslim men who do not have legal residency?

Muslim women in those countries have the right to take precautions for themselves by marrying someone with legal residency, so they do not face harassment such as sudden travel or security restrictions. However, if these concerns are absent, a suitor of good character and religious commitment should not be rejected, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If there comes to you one whose religion and character you approve, then marry him." We advise the suitor to be patient until he finds a woman of religious commitment and good character who will raise his children upon Islam.
