Uzayr was mentioned in the stories of the prophets as Uzayr ibn Jarwah or ibn Sūriq. He was among those captured by Nebuchadnezzar when he was a boy, and Allah granted him wisdom. He is mentioned in the Holy Quran in the Almighty’s saying: "And the Jews say, ‘Ezra is the son of Allah’" (Surah At-Tawbah: 30), and in His Almighty’s saying: "Or [consider] the one who passed by a town while it had fallen into ruin upon its roofs" (Surah Al-Baqarah: 259). It is said that his tomb is located in Damascus.
