Is it permissible for a mother to give from her Zakat money to her married, poor daughter?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a woman is married and her husband is in financial difficulty or absent, and he has no money, and she and her daughter are unable to obtain their maintenance from him, and they are not disobedient (nashiz), then they are entitled to receive from zakat, provided that they do not possess what suffices them. However, it is not permissible for the woman to take from her mother's zakat, because the maintenance of her poor, non-earning descendants is obligatory upon the mother.
