What is the Sharia ruling regarding a man who said to his wife, "Your greeting your aunt results in your divorce," knowing that she does not greet her aunt or speak to her due to a misunderstanding, and he regrets what he said? And what should he do?

If a man makes the divorce of his wife contingent on an action, and that action occurs, then the divorce takes effect according to the majority of scholars, whether the husband intended a threat or a divorce. However, divorce does not take effect according to Ibn Taymiyyah if the husband intended nothing but a threat.

The conditional form does not require an explicit conditional particle; rather, anything that indicates linking the fulfillment of one sentence's content to another sentence's content is sufficient, whether by a conditional particle or by something else that takes its place and is indicated by the context of the speech.

The wife is advised to obey her husband and refrain from what he has forbidden her, because the harm of divorce is greater than the harm of cutting ties of kinship in this case.
