What is the ruling on a wife who refuses to obey her husband, abuses him verbally and physically, deserts him, and insists on not returning to the marital home, and how should one deal with her family who support her in this?

If the wife is disobedient (nashiz), the husband should treat her well and overlook past issues if she returns to their home and treats him kindly. If her family is corrupting her, he may prevent her from visiting them to the extent that avoids their corrupting influence. However, if she persists in her disobedience, divorce is permissible, and the husband may restrict her until she seeks khula' from him by forfeiting her Mahr (bridal gift) or part of it.
