Am I considered a perpetrator of usury and at war with Allah and His Messenger if I take an interest-bearing loan out of necessity to pay for university expenses and to help my father after his car accident?

Islam has forbidden usury (riba) and made it one of the gravest major sins. It has warned those who engage in it of destruction, war, and painful torment if they do not repent, as Allah Almighty says: ﴿O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of riba, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 279]. And His saying: ﴿Allah destroys riba and gives increase for charities. And Allah does not like every sinful disbeliever﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 276]. Taking riba is not permissible except in cases of extreme necessity, and what was mentioned is not a necessity, as it is possible to do without it by using public transportation.
