What is the wisdom behind the existence of the متشابه (the ambiguous/unclear) in the Quran and the seemingly contradictory hadiths, despite God's ability to make it free of ambiguity? Is the occurrence of ambiguity in eloquent speech natural, even in the speech of imams? And have the ambiguities currently being raised not occurred to the Companions due to our distance from the Arabic language, or does God want us to exert effort to know His intent?

There is no real contradiction between the texts of revelation. Any perceived contradiction is resolved by scholars through understanding the intent of the Lawgiver, identifying what is abrogating from what is abrogated, or specifying the general. Allah is far removed from sending down two contradictory proofs at the same time. Rather, He sends down one, and the other abrogates it. Any perceived contradiction arises from our ignorance of what came first and what came later.
