Is it permissible to recite Surat As-Sajdah and Surat Al-Insan in congregation after Fajr prayer instead of reciting them within the prayer itself, in order to revive the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), or is this considered an innovation (bid'ah)?
The recitation of Surat As-Sajdah and Surat Al-Insan on Friday is prescribed at all times. However, it is established that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to recite them during the Fajr prayer on Friday, and not after the prayer, as per the Hadith of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him. Therefore, consistently reciting them after the Fajr prayer on Friday is not commanded by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and it may fall under the category of an added innovation (bid'ah idafiyyah) due to his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: “Whoever does an act which is not in accordance with our matter, it will be rejected.”
