What is the ruling on breastfeeding for less than two years?

It is permissible to wean a child before two years if it does not harm him, based on the verse: "And mothers shall suckle their children for two whole years, for him who desires to complete the suckling." Weaning before two years may be recommended or even obligatory if suckling harms the child or the mother.
