What is the ruling on listening to a reciter who recites using musical maqamat (modes), and what is the ruling on imitating his voice and performance?

One should not listen to or imitate a reciter who recites the Noble Qur’an with innovated vocal مقامات (maqamat) because that involves participating in innovation. If you do not know that the reciter is reciting with innovated مقامات, then the assumption about a Qur’an reciter is that he recites in the correct manner. You can listen to the reciters of the Book of Allah who recite it with the correct recitation and imitate their recitation.
