Is it permissible to perform the prayer while sitting or in a room other than the prayer area?

The Sunnah is for the muezzin to call the adhan and iqamah while standing. This has been the practice of people since the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Whoever calls the adhan or iqamah while sitting without an excuse has done wrong and contravened the Sunnah. This is a matter agreed upon by scholars. It is disliked for the muezzin to call the adhan while sitting unless there is an excuse, or if he is calling the adhan for himself. The Sunnah is for the one calling the iqamah not to walk, but to call it immediately from the spot where he will pray.
