What is the ruling on performing the prayer while sitting, with a mention of the scholars who permitted it?

The Sunnah (Prophetic tradition) for calling the Iqama (the second call to prayer just before the prayer itself) is to do so while standing, not while sitting. If one calls the Iqama while sitting, it is disliked (makruh), but the Iqama is valid and does not become null and void, because standing for the Iqama is recommended (mustahabb) by the consensus of the jurists.
