Is it permissible to perform the call to prayer (adhan) while sitting or lying down, and is there any evidence for that from the Qur’an and Sunnah?

The Sunnah is for the muezzin to give the call to prayer while standing, due to what has been authentically reported from the muezzins of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and due to the consensus of the scholars. If he gives the call to prayer while sitting or lying down without an excuse, his adhan is valid, though disliked. If he has an excuse, it is permissible for him to give the adhan while sitting.
