Is it obligatory to repay a student loan burdened with usury, knowing that the government is apostate, fighting Islam, permitting the forbidden, forbidding the permissible, and ruling by other than what Allah has revealed?

You must return the principal amount of the loan you borrowed without the usurious increase, and repent to Allah for engaging in usury. Allah Almighty has commanded the return of the principal without the increase, as He says: "O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war [against you] from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may have your principal - [thus] you do not wrong, nor are you wronged." (Al-Baqarah: 278-279). This ruling applies whether the lender is a disbeliever or a Muslim.
