What is the religious ruling regarding marital problems between a father and a mother that include the mother's aversion to intercourse, the father's accusation of her being frigid and ignorant, his threat of insubordination (nushuz) or divorce, and his humiliation of her with beating and insults?

A wife must obey her husband if he calls her to bed, and she should not refuse unless there is an excuse such as illness, menstruation, an obligatory fast, or harm that would befall her. A husband has the right to enjoy his wife whenever he wishes, as long as he does not harm her or distract her from her obligatory duties. If the man increases in intercourse, they should agree on a suitable amount, and if they dispute, the judge will determine it.

If the wife refuses without a valid excuse, she is considered disobedient (nashiz), and her husband has the right to discipline her through admonition, then abandonment (in bed), then light, non-injurious striking. As for insulting parents, it is impermissible, and insulting religion is an act of disbelief that expels one from the faith. The father should be advised gently and respectfully, and the mother should be advised to obey her husband in what is good. Honoring one's parents is obligatory, no matter what their condition.
