Can a man who divorced his wife with a single, revocable divorce take her back during her waiting period, knowing that he does not pray, smokes, invokes death upon his son, and wishes to return to a pre-marital life, and what advice is directed to the wife?

A man may take back his wife if he divorced her with one or two pronouncements, as long as she is still within her waiting period (iddah). If he does not take her back by the time her iddah expires, she becomes a stranger to him, and it is not permissible for him to remarry her except with a new contract and a new dower (mahr). As for our advice to the wife: she should fear Allah and advise her husband to maintain his prayers. If he insists on abandoning them, then she may seek a divorce.
