Is it permissible to perform Umrah on behalf of another, commencing the state of Ihram from the hotel? And is it permissible to perform Umrah on behalf of a prisoner?
If someone in Mecca intends to perform , their (point of assuming ) is the nearest point outside the boundary (adna al-hill). If one assumes ihram from within the Haram and does not exit to the hill, a dam (sacrificial offering) is required. Some scholars are of the opinion that such an ihram is not even valid.
As for performing Umrah on behalf of another: if the person is permanently incapacitated (ma‘dhoob) with no hope of recovery, it is permissible to perform Umrah on their behalf. This applies to both the living and the deceased. However, for someone who is not permanently incapacitated, it is not permissible to perform the Umrah of Islam on their behalf. Regarding optional (Nafl) Umrah on their behalf, there is a difference of opinion among scholars.
