Is wiping dust and crumbs off a notebook containing Qur'anic verses and Hadiths, then placing them back on the same spot, considered a desecration of the Qur'an and a major sin? And how can one be sure that they are not doing so out of disrespect? What is the ruling on an obsessive person persisting in an action they suspect of being disrespectful in order to convince themselves that it is not, and is this persistence a sin?

The person afflicted with waswasa (obsessive whispering) must ignore the waswasa and not investigate whether their action was out of disrespect or not. Placing the Mushaf (copy of the Qur’an) on a dusty table is not considered a sign of disrespect, and removing all dust is not required due to the hardship involved. Placing the Mushaf directly on a clean floor is a matter of scholarly disagreement: some scholars prohibited it, while others permitted it if there was no intention of disrespect, though preferring to place it on an elevated surface out of honor for it. Using a notebook to clean dust is not permissible as it goes against proper etiquette, given that it contains Qur’anic verses and Prophetic traditions, but it is not considered disbelief unless there was an intention of disrespect.
