Is it permissible to offer a sacrificial animal (udhiyah) on the day of Eid al-Adha and intend it on behalf of "Our Lady, the Truthful Mary, daughter of Imran, peace be upon her," seeking nearness to Allah thereby? And is it permissible to perform Umrah, Hajj, give charity, and supplicate for her?

Sacrificing on behalf of the deceased is not polytheism; rather, its permissibility is the preponderant view. Similarly, performing Umrah, Hajj, giving charity, and supplicating for the deceased are all legislated acts, and the deceased benefits from all bodily and financial acts of worship. He receives the reward for any act of devotion performed by a Muslim and dedicated to him. However, it is more befitting for a Muslim to dedicate the reward of his acts of devotion to himself and to frequently supplicate and seek forgiveness for his deceased, as this was the practice of the righteous predecessors.
