Is it permissible to delay Fajr prayer or intend to make it up after its prescribed time for a traveler by land who is with a group that does not pray, if stopping to perform it would lead to a major problem or severe dispute?

Prayer has specific times, and it is not permissible to delay the Fajr prayer beyond its time except for an excuse such as sleep or forgetfulness. If the worshiper fears missing his companions or suffering harm if he dismounts to perform the prayer on the ground, he may pray on the vehicle (such as a car or riding animal) according to his ability, facing the Qiblah, and performing bowing, prostration, and tranquility if possible. He should repeat the prayer as a precaution upon dismounting. This is derived from the sayings of Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, An-Nawawi, and Ibn Abidin. However, if he can stop the car and does not fear significant harm other than people's talk, this is not an excuse to delay the prayer beyond its time or to pray on the vehicle.
