What is the ruling on dealing with parents who cultivate cannabis, and is it permissible to abandon them when there are young siblings who need care?

It is not permissible to cultivate Indian hemp (cannabis) because it provides a forbidden and harmful substance. An exception is made for its use in medical purposes. The imams have agreed on the prohibition of cultivating hashish and poppies for the extraction of narcotics. Parents should be advised gently and kindly to abstain from such cultivation, reminding them that sustenance comes from Allah, and that piety towards Allah brings ease and provision from unexpected sources. "Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better than it." If Allah prohibits something, He also prohibits its price. One must be careful not to eat from the parents' food if its price comes from unlawful earnings, except in cases of necessity.
